A graduate of Fine Art, with a year in Graphic Design from Bristol University, Richard has presented four solo exhibitions: three in London (most recently at the Islington Arts Factory) and in Berlin (‘Access All Areas’, HF Contemporary Art – Helga Fox, 2011). His works have been included in over 30 group exhibitions and fairs, in the UK, Germany, Austria, and as far as Puerto Rico. He recently studied and learnt the ways of the old masters off a bloke named Duncan Gray in Crouch End London.
Richard’s work presents a highly innovative approach to oil painting on canvas, blurring the lines between fine art and graphic design, is perhaps what appeals to audiences around the world. Acknowledging the fact that the colours will fade with time, Richard’s concern is with contrast, rather than tone, and is audacious in his use of paint, ‘’the drawing determines the picture; the painting part is experimental and meditative’’.
The resulting paintings are a tapestry of modern life; chaos, hope, iniquity, despair, aspirations, spirituality and the detritus of everyday life all meet in a heady dream-like world, deeply evocative and symbolic.
